This paintings moves to the Oddity category, as the lore of "The Crying Boy" is extensive and shocking!
The "Crying Boy" painting refers to a series of portraits depicting a young boy with tears streaming down his face, created by Italian artist Giovanni Bragolin in the 1950s. The lore surrounding the painting began in the 1980s when a strange rumor spread in the UK: homes with this painting displayed were reportedly prone to fires, with the painting itself often found mysteriously unscathed among the ashes. This led to the belief that the painting was cursed. Some versions of the legend suggest that the boy depicted had a tragic, fiery end, which is thought to bring misfortune to those who own it. While widely debunked as an urban myth, the painting’s eerie reputation persists, making it a popular tale in paranormal circles. Bragolin made over 65 versions of this painting.
This is not one by Bragolin, but seems very reminiscent - possibly as an inspiration!
